Let’s Talk About Retirement

There has been a lot of talk about retirement lately. I’m sure it has to do with the fact that the oldest Baby Boomers are turning 60 this year.
I saw 3 Rules for a Happy Retirement by Walter Updegrave in Money Magazine and thought I’d share it. The article stresses having steady income, working some during retirement, and planning your exit from the workforce.
The cover story in the February issue of Kiplinger’s is titled “Sure, you’re saving for retirement. But is it ENOUGH? I read the article and thought it was pretty good. If you don’t subscribe to Kiplinger’s you might want to stop by the book store and at least read this issue. I like the feature on the type of retirement you can enjoy based on the amount of money you have. Also, there’s an excerpt from Lee Eisenberg’s The Number
We go from “how much is enough?” to “maybe you’re saving TOO MUCH.” I don’t think it is possible to save too much. I do think that you need to have balance in your life. I don’t think it is necessary to forsake all fun while you are young in order to save every penny you have for retirement.
These few articles will get you started. I plan on making this a feature of AllThingsFinancial. There’s a ton of information out there and I consider it my job to help weed through it and tell you about the best.
